Two Cultures

My casual interest in computer design has been the driving factor in me taking this course. After the reads regarding the two separate cultures between science and literary humanities, I am convinced that art technology will be an emerging third culture, as it may perhaps open that critical communication between the two others, as C.P. Snow suggested in his article “Two Cultures”. Being an athlete at UCLA, perhaps my interest in both sports and design will take me into the fabrication of athletic performance shoes. Bringing together both creative design and scientific methods. My reading further supported this idea, emphasizing new areas of art are formed.
Being at a university that has such a vast amount of these cultural disciplines creates and environment that opens endless opportunities to dialogue and collaborate.  The ability to have an endless supply of resources from equipment to supplies, are valuable to the success of innovation. With that there is also the fact that UCLA is always on the edge of the newest technological advances.

Despite the divide between the sciences and the literary intellectuals because of the nature of the cultures, one dealing with absolutes versus the other with abstract, the opportunity for artistic technology to be a third culture that allows collaboration between the others is important.
